Today, Sunday June 14th 2009, is Flag Day. It’s a day when Americans are asked to remember the stars and stripes. Some folks in Mobile were celebrating the holiday on the water. The schooner Joshua set sail for a short trip around Mobile Bay today. The ship sailed around bay and circled back to the Grand Mariner Marina. About 25 people paid to join the voyage this afternoon. Organizers say they wanted to do it on Flag Day to celebrate American freedom.

“We get to go and do what we want to do because we have freedoms and that's what the flag represents to us, at least to me it represents freedom that we have,” says Captain Carol Bramblett. The captain says the schooner Joshua is the official tall ship for the city of Mobile. She says it was also named the official tall ship for the state by the governor in April.
