Mobile Fire-Rescue is investigating the cause of a fire that caused $250,000 in damage to Cato's Fashions on Moffett Road in Semmes and nearby businesses.
A spokesman for Mobile Fire-Rescue says a customer noticed a clothes rack on fire Tuesday night. The customer notified employees who then tried unsuccessfully to put it out before evacuating the store.
Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to adjacent businesses, although there was smoke and water damage in Super Cuts, and slight smoke damage in The Shoe Dept., H & R Block and China City Buffet.
