Mobile Fire-Rescue is investigating the cause of a fire that caused $250,000 in damage to Cato's Fashions on Moffett Road in Semmes and nearby businesses.

A spokesman for Mobile Fire-Rescue says a customer noticed a clothes rack on fire Tuesday night. The customer notified employees who then tried unsuccessfully to put it out before evacuating the store.

Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to adjacent businesses, although there was smoke and water damage in Super Cuts, and slight smoke damage in The Shoe Dept., H & R Block and China City Buffet.

Well Doug, ole boy, “just to let you know” the residents of Semmes DO PAY City taxes to the CITY OF MOBILE for police and fire protection—everyone in the 3-mile jurisdiction of the City HAS TO PAY 1/2 of Mobile’s “city tax” on their purchases.

So the residents of Semmes pay 2 cents on every dollar that they spend at Walmart, CATO, etc to the City of Mobile.  For this, the City of Mobile is supposed to provide police and fire protection.

In response to your suggestion that “Mobile Fire-Rescue should let them deal with it. Getting services like this without paying for it” is a crock of bull.

AND, if you look closely, you’ll find that WalMart is IN Semmes, not Mobile.  Yes, it is the SEMMES WALMART, with a Semmes address and a Semmes zip code.

They are in police jurisdicition (Mobile City Limits) Semmes is further down the road. Don’t they have cameras that would show someone setting the fire?

I didn’t think that Semmes was in Mobile? Didn’t they vote against annexation?

Mobile Fire-Rescue should let them deal with it. Getting services like this without paying for it.
