MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama High School AthleticAssociation has slapped George Washington Carver High School with a
$2,600 fine and banned the school from playing in any tournaments
in 2009.
The penalties, announced Wednesday, was punishment for a Feb. 17
brawl between Carver and the Valley High School basketball squads.
The fight occurred during the fourth quarter of the Class 5A
regional semifinal game at Alabama State University.
Valley High was fined $3,900 for its role in the melee and the
association said the school could face additional penalties.
The brawl, which also involved fans, drew national media
attention.
