The Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce and local political leaders say the labor market in the area is very hot and with the construction of the new Thyssenkrupp steel plant and other new developments, the market is expected to get even hotter.Unfortunately, like the rest of the country, Thousands of people are without jobs. The unemployment rate remains well over 8 percent along our stretch of the gulf coast.
Thousands of people showed up at the recent Jobs fair at the Mobile Civic Center, many of them looking for employment. It was sponsored by the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission and the city of Mobile.
We were given lots of tips by the more than 100 vendors who were present about how best to find a job.
Representatives from Faulkner State Community College and Bishop State made it clear that there are free services available that help in the education process. You are urged to give them a call.
