MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Pet owners will only have to get their
animals vaccinated for rabies once every three years rather than
every year under a bill that has received final approval in the
Alabama Legislature.
The bill passed the Alabama House Thursday on a 101-0 vote and
now goes to the governor for review.
The bill's sponsor, Sen. Larry Dixon of Montgomery, said rabies
vaccines are now good for three years, but state law requires the
shots be given every year. He said it's bad for the animals to give
them the shots every year.
The current law requires that cats and dogs receive the
vaccinations. The bill passed by the Legislature Thursday would
require that ferrets also receive the rabies shots.

MS has observed the 3 year rabies schedule for several years. I have never been charged more than $8 by my MS vet. However, here is Alabama, the clinic charges about $12. The the rabies events places like B&B Petstop holds, charge $8. I doubt they will raise the price, they want to encourage immunization and there is a lack of overhead.

No carl-it is illegal in Alabama to give your animals the rabies shot-but you can do all the other shots yourself…I bet the price will go up.

long over due! I wonder if that means they will be hiking the price up for each shot. These shots were making money for some.I saw a while back the cost of making the shot and the cost to the pet owner published by some one and it came out to be 1/16th of the cost was the actual cost of the shot.In times past you could buy a bottle of the vaccine from the pharmacy and give your hunting dogs shots your self and save some money.I wonder if that still happens?

Yay!  We are catching up with the rest of the country!
