Mobile police officers share their thoughts about their colleague, Brandon Sigler.

Officer Sigler was shot and killed Tuesday night at the Tyler Ridge Apartments in West Mobile. Police have charged 18-year-old Richard Hollingsworth with capital murder. Friday, a judge denied bond for Hollingsworth.

A visitation for Sigler was held today at Radney Funeral Home. His funeral is tomorrow.

Capt. Phillip McCrary, commander of the First Precinct where Officer Sigler was assigned, said he wants people to know what kind of person Brandon was. "He honestly cared more about the people around him than he did himself," McCrary said. "He could go on a call with two guys fist fighting and would have them hugging by the time he left! Brandon was a hard worker and would do anything asked of him. He was so proud of his fiancée and couldn’t wait to be married. He truly loved her and his entire family.”

“He was fun to be around and fun to work with," said Officer Kerry Coleman. "‘Sig’ was a good guy and he looked out for me. I feel like I lost a brother.”

Lt. Travis Dannelly said “Brandon had a million dollar smile! I’ve watched him grow in his job and become an excellent police officer. He was most recently working overtime to buy a house and start a family. He had just finished pre-marriage counseling and was looking forward to his role as a family man. Brandon will truly, truly be missed.”

The funeral for Sigler is tomorrow at 12 Noon at St. Mary’s Parish on N Lafayette Street in Midtown. Several streets around the church will be closed starting at 11:00 a.m. - Old Shell Road between Catherine Street and Garnett Avenue, and Lafayette Street between Spring Hill Avenue and Dauphin Street.

After the funeral service, there will be 'rolling' road closures as the funeral procession makes its way from Midtown to Mobile Memorial Gardens in Tillmans Corner where Sigler will be buried.

Funeral procession route -- South on Lafayette Street, West on Hwy 90 to Three Notch Road/Hillcrest.

That was very beautiful and eloquently written, Officer Demmings and Family. I’m sure the Sigler family would love to read this too, if they have not already. My deepest condolences go out to you for your loss.

Tour of Duty
Everyday our lives are put to test
Especially when law enforcement is laid to rest
We fight a battle, every single day
Making right, the wrong’s, in each and everyway
We spend a life time, I can confess
Doing all we can, to be our very best
The fight for justice, we’re on one accorded
Every battle we face is observed by the Lord.

Through all our hurt, through all our pain
Though we lost one, many we gained
Roll call is over, another tour complete
Life’s pursuit of happiness, rest at God’s seat

The court of appeals will make its case
Ruling officer Sigler, is in a better place
Knowing mercy and grace, was at his side
His life lives on, although he has died

New orders came down, causing a tearful cry
Re-assigning my friend, to God’s, precinct up high
I believe in my heart He’s patrolling still
Walking heaven’s grounds, doing God’s will

I dedicated these words, to family and friends
Hoping this would easy, the hurt within
Life brings us joy, but sometimes its pain
Just trust in Jesus, to work things out
He will do it without a doubt.

Peace Be Still
Amen

Yes we do all have to remember that thankfully it has been over almost 20 years since the last noted death of an officer on duty.

doug is an idiot.

The man was a Police Officer. He’s a public servant. Like the President all the down, their deaths are respected to the highest degree. Not just for the person, but for the Office they held, or the job they did.

These funerals are so thankfully rare that the cost is pretty much insignificant to the moral boost that comes from them.

Let’s just hope that your advice Seek will actually sink in. Doubtful, but hopeful.

Do you know they are coming in their patrol cars? They PAY their OWN way-to honor and respect one of their own. I can assure you California is not sending a convoy with your tax dollars. Do you know how many people from all areas of the service specter went to New York after 911, on their own time, paid their own way to help and to show support to their fallen brothers and their families?

When my dad was killed, we had people lined up for hours waiting for the visitation. We had a procession over a mile long. Do you know him? Probably not, because he was just a good guy who had the love and support of many whose lives he had touched-just like Officer Sigler does, regardless of profession. We should all be so fortunate to have made an impact in so many lives and to be be remembered so fondly in death. Perhaps you should think about what kind of impact YOU are making, and live to be someone who will leave a positive legacy. Instead of the bitter one you have now.

DT’s problem is the squad cars being driven to the funeral.

I think that DT is just pissed off at the world at this point. Not making too much sense.

Why not blast about how much money the company GM just took from every single tax payer to get themselves out of debt. Billions. We will never see that either.

Whose time and money is being wasted? Where does it say that DT’s tax dollars are paying for ANY of this. All funeral processions have LE that direct traffic and ride before and after the procession. ALL-doesn’t matter if you are LE, a computer geek, or a drug dealer. ALL “events” that would cause a large crowd, would instigate road closings, as a matter of public safety and for traffic control. Do they not close streets for Bayfest, for the Senior Bowl, or anything else that draws a large crowd. Would it make a difference to you if he was Joe Blow, who just happened to have a lot of friends and family? Because truly, it sounds like your beef is that he was a LE officer.

Did you pitch a hissy fit when the MFD had their trucks across Dauphin Street with the flags draped as the funeral procession occurred for the fireman who died? Do you pitch a hissy fit every time a large funeral procession goes by, regardless of who they are and what they do?
