BAY MINETTE, Ala. (AP) - State officials have disputed a U.S.Justice Department civil rights division report critical of operations at the William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay
Minette.
The report, released in December and based on an inspection 10
months earlier, alleges that deficiencies have contributed to the
deaths of residents and led to other preventable illnesses and
injuries.
Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner W. Clyde
Marsh said Monday the report is full of "reckless allegations."
He said they seem based on seculation instead of substantial
evidence.
The state has submitted an initial response to federal officials
and will give an official one in coming weeks.
