ATMORE, Alabama - Around Nathan Road you’ll see campers, trailers and toys where Thursday night’s shooting happened.“I couldn't do nothing, I could only hold him right there, that's all I could do,” says Liz Porter. She’s the wife of 33-year-old Kenny Porter. He was killed after an argument on 9/24/09. She says she was paralyzed with anguish as she says she watched what happened.
“He was a good man he would help anybody, he was kindhearted,” says Liz Porter. Liz is a mother of three with a fourth baby girl on the way any day now. She says there's now a hole in her heart and her family.
“I don't have nothing, I don't have no job, I don't know how I’m going to take care of my kids, he was the only one I had, I don't have nobody,” says Liz Porter.
Neighbors say Clarence Luker shot Kenny Porter during an argument Thursday night. There are conflicting accounts over what started an apparent verbal confrontation that escalated to violence. Porter died from his injruies after being flown to USA Medical Center. Porter's Mother-In-Law Lorraine Gray is also charged with murder. Some people who live along Nathan Road say one of the worst parts about Thursday's shooting is that it happened in the evening, when children were outside playing
“When he went to shooting that gun I went to moving the kids out of the way there was no sense in that with all those kids out there,” says the victim’s Sister-In-Law Janice Rowland. Family members say Porter had no life insurance. Any donations to help can be sent to the Petty Funeral Home in Atmore. Their phone number is 251- 368-4540. The two suspects are in the Escambia County Jail.
