A small, rural community in Washington County is rallying around the family of three children killed last week in a house fire.

Family members tell News Five there has been an outpouring of support for David and Virginia Nelson, and they need every bit of it.

The couple lost three of their children when a fire ripped through their home early Friday morning. Christy Nelson, 9, David Nelson, 11, and Colton Mosley, 11, were asleep upstairs when the fire started.

While nothing can bring the kids back, friends and family say the couple, who recently lost their home owner's insurance, now needs help rebuilding.

A fundraiser is scheduled for this Saturday at the home of Allen and Renee Nelson at 13785 John Johnston Road in Charity Chapel.

BBQ plates will be sold for $6, and donations are appreciated. There is also a Nelson Family Trust Fund set up at Regions Bank.

you said you are from mississippi, what part?

Justice:  You are SOOO RIGHT about all the FEMA trailers on I59 and the sad part of it is what we are paying the man who owns the land for them to sit there.  Millions, you hear me, MILLIONS.  Our government has paid out more in rent for those trailers than what the trailers are actually worth.  So yea I say if someone loses their home then they should be eligible for a FEMA trailer to help them get back on their feet.

maybe they could get one of the FEMA trailers that have never been used.  They need to put those to good use instead of letting them just sit there.  They have 100’s that are brand new on I-59 in a big field.

This is sad that these children lost there life so soon…collecting money for funeral expenses I can understand, but I think to help them rebuild is a little to much to ask.  Maybe I’m wrong, but like everyone else this is my opinion…When my cousins mobile home burnt down a few years ago she had nothing left. And as thankful as she was to be alive and all 6 children escaped she never once asked for money to build or buy her a new place. She did have a few hundred dollars donated to help buy new clothes etc. However, she and her husband went back to work as they stayed with her mother until they were able to find them another place. My heart goes out to this family in time of such a tragic loss!

This is so sad. That is one good thing about Citronelle, in a time of need the community joins together.
