A Fairhope High School senior is spending "Senior Day" in the hospital after he was run over by a tractor.

State Troopers say 18-year-old John Johnson and several friends rode a John Deere tractor to school Friday morning. They stopped at the intersection of County Road 13 and County Road 32. When the tractor began moving again, Johnson fell off and was run over by one of the tires.

Johnson was flown to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola for “significant, but non-life threatening injuries."

I am John’s mother and I want to say thank you for those who prayed for my son’s recovery and to those with all the negative remarks I would just like to say one I had NO idea that they were going to be doing this and if I had I would have done everything in my power to stop it. And two I wish the parent that owned the tractor and knew what they were doing would have stopped them or told me what they were planning.

I lost a cousin and his young son in a tractor accident a good while back and a friend a while later and they probably could have been still alive had roll bars been required then. They had been required at one time and then they stop putting them on tractors because of the added expense or something like that.I hate to think of the lives that could have been saved for a few more dollars on the price of a tractor.

As someone who lost a loved loved one to a tractor accident-I can only say that I am thankful this child is alright. Not a day goes by, that I don’t see my dad under the wheel of that tractor, and wonder if he suffered before my mom and kids found him. Not a day goes by that I don’t question what happened and why, because we will never have the answer. Not a day goes by, that I don’t wish I had I my dad back-at least this child has another chance at life.Hoping and praying for a full recovery for you…

If we all could have 20/20 hind sight before hand,we’d all be geniuses.grin

Let’s stand out, have fun and drive this tractor to school. You could have all been killed. Over correcting on a tractor is serious business. They are not big toys! Thank the good Lord you all survived. This poor child could have had his head run over.

Don’t blame road signs for this mess, if it doesn’t say ‘4-Way Stop’ it probably isn’t. Duh!

My grandfather taught me to drive a tractor at an early age. Never once did I think to use it as an automobile.

bad baldwin county redneck comment: i remember growing up over here and playing football against mcgill every year. they would dress up in overalls and straw hats and think we treat us like dumb country cousins. 30 years forward and i am still a dumb redneck farmer and raised my child to be a dumb redneck farmer. and these dumb redneck farms fetch 44-66k an acre as many of these same people are trying to get over here to live. ha ha who’s laughing now. like alan jackson says, its alright to be a redneck.

a bunch of guys built this 1959 caddy in shop class. took off the trunk and back seat. put foam all around. The pascagoula cops wrote a ticket for having 53 ppl in it, mostly the football team. we took state that year in football. i think Dean got out of the ticket. you see the car had no reverse, they were needed if you wanted to back up. you people get a grip on things.

whodat-thank you, I know kids do silly things, don’t seem dangerous at the time. And I did not say they were rednecks from bad families. I was trying to say, sometimes it’s a parent’s place to say, “this may not be a good idea” Yes, I was very upset because I remember all too well the pain and heart ache, and my first thought was to ask God to let this child be alright. I know his parents are suffering right now too, my prayers are for them also. And I am sorry for speaking to you in such a way. Oh, yes, my kids did silly things. And no, I am not, never have been a perfect parent.

I am very sorry for your loss. I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.

The difference in dumb parent: puts child on tractor, child falls and loses hand. My child, (ex)dumb parent—thus been there.
Accidents: My daughter was killed in car accident—done that.
Got the tee shirt: the one with their blood still on it.  That’s how I know the difference.
