FAIRHOPE, Ala. (AP) - Fairhope's city council voted to reject
the mayor's veto of a 2-cent sales tax approved by the council two
weeks ago.
Council president Debbie Quinn changed her position and voted
for the veto override Monday night. It's the city's first sales tax
in its 100-year history and goes into effect soon.
Mayor Tim Kant had urged a reduction in city expenses before
approving a sales tax.

The tourists are the only ones I guess that shop Fairhope, if it wasn’t for WalMart, there would be no one in Fairhope shopping, oh and Winn Dixie. Everyone I know goes outside Fairhope to shop.

BIG MISTAKE!!!

Nah, its a good thing to get the tourists to help pay our bills for us. The Mayor flip-flopped back and forth on this issue over the years. Recently said he’d cut expenses all he could and recommended a 1.5% sales tax. The phony politics is over (thank goodness) and now its time to move on!! smile Thanks to those who were able to rise above the political muck and do the right thing!

I bet these council members will not be re elected with that move. way to go fairhope, you just lost loyal voters, people move there to avoid the sales texes, now they got to deal with extra taxes.
