MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - An escaped Donaldson prison inmate hasbeen recaptured after officials found him on the Warrior River in a
stolen boat.
Corrections spokesman Brian Corbett said 30-year-old Jeffrey
Blackwood was found about eight miles away from the prison and was
taken into custody by Sgt. Keith Jones around 8 a.m. Thursday.
That was nearly 24 hours after Blackwood escaped by running into
nearby woods while doing groundskeeping work at the prison
Wednesday.
Corbett said a boat had been reported missing overnight and
Jones and the boat owner went out on the river to look for it. They
found Blackwood in the missing boat and he surrendered.
Blackwood began serving time in October 2006 on charges of
receiving stolen property and forgery. He was scheduled to be
released in March 2011.
