When 8 politicians gather, all vying for the same prize--how do you fairly fit all of them in one news story--as they talk to voters? I decided to get a short sound byte from each one. Some are from the forum; others were explaining why they were the best choice for governor in interviews after the forum. “I think I'd be the best leader of all of them, I have the most capacity to bring people together.”
Artur Davis during a post-forum interview
“I believe we need to cut the education bureaucracy, I believe we need to return control to the parents and local school boards.”
Roy Moore during the forum
“Because the people want results without spending tax dollars.”
Kay Ivey during a post-forum interview
“I'm going to give children hope in Alabama whether you want to be a PhD or pipefitter.”
Ron Sparks during the forum
“I’m the only candidate in this race to lead this state through these very difficult times that are coming.”
Bradley Byrne during a post-forum interview
“Until you control pension costs and healthcare costs you cannot catch it.”
Tim James during the forum
“And plus having a heart and being compassionate for those have a tough time in our state.”
Bill Johnson during a post-forum interview
“The thing that can cut however are health costs that's what's running our education budget up.”
Robert Bentley during the forum
The Business Council of Alabama sponsored the forum. With its bright lights and transparent podiums it almost looked like a presidential debate. The field of eight gets narrowed during the primaries next year.
