The Mobile County Water Sewer company turned off service at multiple mobile home parks in Theodore and left the tenants high and dry.

About 60 families living at the Bassenger's Mobile Home Parks on Old Pascagoula Road spent the past couple of days without water. The tenants say they just woke up one morning to find nothing coming out of the faucet. We're told that water is part of the rent and the people are pointing fingers at their landlord.

After talking to the landlord, we got a very different story. Cris Bassenger says many tenants haven't paid rent in months and he can't afford to pay their utilities anymore. "The best way to sum it up is with the economy. The tenants that I have are being directly hit by the economy. So, for past 18 months or so they aren't able to find work."

Bassenger says he surrendered one of the properties to the bank and it has a new owner. We talked to those owners and Sylvia Holt says she and her husband are getting the water turned on at park # 3.

Basssenger says he is working to get a well running out on the remaining properties and is willing to work with any tenants trying to pay their bills.

RMSEEK & SMASON-glad yall joined in the conversation. There are not enough arrests in that area or at the parks.  I cant tell you the number of times we have called the police to do something about things going on in the parks and the police do not do a thing.  We have actually had someone call the police because of a gun shot in the park and the police did not go out there.  They dont want to deal with the people and the problems anymore, they are tired of it but if something would get done about them, we could have cleaned those parks up and got better people in there.  And the trash around the parks on the ground, yea they want to blame the landlord, but he is not the one throwing it on the ground!  We started out in a trailer, and it always stayed cleaned.  You dont have to have money to be clean, keep your kids clean and be a decent person. But the legal system here protects these people, lets them live off the gov. and then complains that our country is broke. HELLO!!!!

Sounds pretty straighforward and simple, doesn’t it smason? Unfortunately, drugs addle the brains of those complaining and simple comprehension is not possible.

I don’t understand the argument here. Tenants who didn’t pay rent got their water shut off- which is included in the rent? Am I missing here? Perhaps I should start back reading…

Another reason they probably can’t get utilities in their own name is because utility companies usually require a deposit, and if you are a new customer, they may require proof of income and a credit check.Go figure-people whose only income is from government funds and drug sales-probably don’t have a w2 or pay stub. And if you don’t pay rent, and move every 6 months, then you probably can’t get credit!

Southfan-I can only hope the kids will do better, and not become part of multi-generational welfare fraud. But of course, the parents have to get up before NOON to make sure their kids attend school.

How many cases of excessive school absences and truancy come from these parks? How many of these kids end up in DHR custody-short term or permanent? The kids have a lot going against them.

I wonder, even though there are still major problems with drugs and prostition in that area-what is the rate of arrest? I know I have heard about SEVERAL drug and prostitution busts in that area. And I know I don’t notice the crack hoes walking 90 and Old Pasc. as much as they used to…

Of course the dead beats can move to one of the other fine parks on that stretch-like maybe Wanda’s…

Amen, lovin. I do not know ya’ll, but I have been in your parks before. I do think they are slums, but I TOTALLY see how it is the tenants who made it this way. You can be poor, but keep your home clean, and take care of the things you do have. But that seems to be a dirty word to some of these folks. It is amazing the difference in rental properties, just based on the clientel. It’s funny, they don’t have money for rent, but can support a pack a day,or case a day habit. They complain about the trash, yet don’t look to themselves. Really, only trash uses their front yard as a dumping ground for their empty Coors cans.Or is that the landlord fault too???

What about tenant responsibility? Of course, responsibility of any kind is a foreign word to some of these people-just waiting for the next handout….Leeches who are destroying society.

jahuey- what does that mean?? because we went out somewhere we have showed “true colors” thats stupid.  What, good people dont go out? But, actually we had a limo service at that time and we were doing a limo run and the people invited us to join them in their celebration.  So that night we were WORKING.  Like I said, we WORK for what we have.  That goes for you too just “no water”, we have the things we have because we have WORKED for it. And we live in the house we live in right now not able to pay our bills.  Tenants like you have caused us to have to file Bankruptcy which now we are about to begin climbing back out of since we are walking away from the parks.  We are WORKING our way back up.  Maybe the tenants should try it, something new ya know.

The stuck up rich that do not care about the people they are suppose to care about will always show their true colors as Cris and his wife have here.  But wait there will be more from them because as it has been said They love the spotlight.  Hell you know they are at home reading all this loving it all saying Hey honey look we are on TV.  What should be done is go look at how they live it is a whole lot better then the parks they claim to maintain, or so called don’t have money to fix.

BamaBob - There ya go.  I tried to tell wifey that it was best to quit rambling, but they have to be in the spotlight, and will keep on rambling on until they say enough to show their true colors. Sometimes it’s better to let things run their course and work out, but you have to be smart enough to recognize that.

Wait a minute here…..  You guys were out some place and saw your tenants drinking and buying rounds for others?  How did the two of you stumble across this clandestine watering hole?
