About 60 families living at the Bassenger's Mobile Home Parks on Old Pascagoula Road spent the past couple of days without water. The tenants say they just woke up one morning to find nothing coming out of the faucet. We're told that water is part of the rent and the people are pointing fingers at their landlord.
After talking to the landlord, we got a very different story. Cris Bassenger says many tenants haven't paid rent in months and he can't afford to pay their utilities anymore. "The best way to sum it up is with the economy. The tenants that I have are being directly hit by the economy. So, for past 18 months or so they aren't able to find work."
Bassenger says he surrendered one of the properties to the bank and it has a new owner. We talked to those owners and Sylvia Holt says she and her husband are getting the water turned on at park # 3.
Basssenger says he is working to get a well running out on the remaining properties and is willing to work with any tenants trying to pay their bills.
