DAPHNE, Alabama - With all the sounds and excitement of a parade, these people are waiting to see a one person procession.Katie Hamlin is nothing short of a miracle.
"I didn't know that this many people were gonna be here. It's great", says Katie. "This is a homecoming, big", says Katie's father, Bob Hamlin. He fights back tears knowing how close he came to losing his baby girl, "We don't know what the problem was, whether it was viral or bacterial..still to this day..baffled all the doctors at Children's Hospital in Birmingham and pretty much all the hospitals around the country".
Katie's sudden illness shocked the community last June.
The Bayside soccer player suddenly developed a severe lung infection forcing her into a coma.
After months of therapy, determination, and prayer Katie returned to the faces of the people who love her.
"Yes...oh my God...Thank you Jesus!", says Katie.
Katie is becoming re-acquainted with old friends..and she has a lot of therapy and rehab ahead of her.
But, one thing is for sure.
Katie Hamlin isn't alone on her road to recovery. "She still has sick lungs", says her father, "and a few other issues. But, all those will resolve so much faster now that we're at home. It's going to be very very good that we're home".
