Volunteers with We Care of Baldwin County, American Red Cross and Volunteers of America are building a new home for Patricia Mendez of Bay Minette.Her original home was damaged during Hurricane Katrina.
She got the money to make repairs but a contractor said her house had to be torn down.
The problem was that the money used to make the repairs could not be used to build her a new home.
Since then, Mendez has been going from house to house living with relatives.
By the end of the week, she will be in her own home.
"She's getting a 864 square foot shot gun style house, two bedroom, one bath, very comfortable and it'll make her a good home," said We Care of Baldwin County President Bobby Clark.
The house should be finished Friday.
That's when Patricia Mendez is going to get the keys to her new home.
When she opens the door, she'll be in for a huge surprise.....the house will be fully furnished!
