MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Ex-judge Stuart DuBose has been sentenced to18 months in prison for a pair of firearms violations.
The jurist presiding over the case said she did not believe the
crimes justified the four-plus years sought by prosecutors.
A jury convicted the former judge in November of possessing guns
in violation of a restraining order issued as part of his divorce
case, as well as lying about that order on a federal form.
U.S. District Judge Kristi DuBose, no relation to the defendant,
said the proposed punishment would have sent Stuart DuBose to
prison longer than most convicted felons caught with guns.
Elected unopposed two years ago, DuBose was ousted as a circuit
judge for Clarke, Choctaw and Washington counties in June by the
Alabama Court of the Judiciary on unrelated ethics charges.
