WASHINGTON (AP) - It looks like the switchover from analog to digital TV won't happen next month, as originally planned. The
Senate is close to an agreement on a bill that would delay the rollout of digital TV to June 12th, instead of February 17th. The
bill is due up for a vote early next week.

Democrats, including newly inaugurated President Barack Obama, have been pushing for the transition to be delayed. Those opposed to the rollout are
concerned that too many Americans who rely on analog TV sets to get their programming won't be ready.

The Nielsen Company says more than 6.5 million American households still aren't prepared for the upcoming transition. That means if the original deadline were to hold, their sets would go dark on February 17th,

I’ve heard of a lady getting people to get these converter box credit cards and either buying them or getting them to give them to her and then selling them for a varying price.Sounds like some of those money people up on wall street doesn’t it? but they do it in a bigger way and walk away with billions of our money we are gonna have to repay and our children and grand children. This program is just a minor abuse of the tax payer as compared to these big bailouts. We’re still the sugar tit of the world and ever one is getting all they can get except the tax payers. There always has been procrastinators and always will be.GEE!I didn’t know I had that big of a word in me.grin

dougstech, you bring up a very valid point. I can’t watch a 30 min show on any channel that has commercials and not see it. If they haven’t prepared by now, either they don’t care, or just can’t.

Its been like 3 years since this was decided. They should let the deadline come, and those not ready be without TVs. I’m tired of seeing an ad every 10 minutes about this DTV transition, those not ready obviously don’t watch to much TV to begin with.

I have noticed a trend in regards to these digital converter boxes. There are individuals who are recieving numerous government coupons for these things, buying tons of them at a discounted prices, and then selling these things to people to make a profit. A few of you just read this and said “So what”?
My point is that once again, people are abusing a government system, and it is causing a backlog for the rest of us…not to mention our tax dollars are funding the voucher coupons.

Yep!Yep! Claycity,That is a big part of this change over.I guess we all will have to pay to watch their commercials now.grin

i got the converter box, and although i can see the transmitter lights at night i coudlnt get an acceptable signal with an exterior antenna for channel 10, so it was blank, 5 was spotty at best. no 55 at all. just some religious channels. finally broke down and reluctantly got direct tv.

Wow it’s been known about for almost 3 years.

Is this really the precedent the new administration wants to set?  I know analog vs. digital TV is that big of deal in the grand scheme of things, but come on.  All this does is train people to rely on the government to bail them out instead of fending for themselves.  Wow, there’s that term again, “bail out”.

Not every one will be able to afford the change over even if the box was given to them. There is more than meets the eye on the change over and a lot of people are not going to be happy campers after the change over I believe.I believe I’m ready for it and have been for about three years now,so I can see some of the problems they might face.

I wish the “i’m not ready” excuse would work for other things in life, but it does not.  I can’t go into class one day and tell my professor that I’m not ready for this test even though i’ve had plenty of time to study, too bad, they are still going to give me the test.  People have had PLENTY of time to be ready for this.
