Things are noisy this day, at M-A-R-C, for good reason. John Scalici, a renowned drummer from Birmingham is conducting a drumming workshop. John designed the workshop to communicate with people with special needs, many of whom are non-verbal. John believes that even when someone cannot speak, he or she still has a voice. He says the drum beat brings people out of their shell. "Its magical to me to be able to make a connection with someone who can't speak or express themselves." John works on creating eye contact, and improving coordination.
When we asked the M-A-R-C participants if they liked the variety of drums, they overwhelmingly said "yes!"
John Scalici conducts workshops at colleges across the Southeast, and team-building workshops for companies. For more on his rhythmic empowerment workshops, click here.
