Alabama State Troopers have identified a man who's truck fell off the Bayway Wednesday afternoon. They said he's 38 year old Lester Anthony Jackson of Mobile.
The accident forced the closure of the west bound lanes of the Bayway Wednesday night.
The scene was cleared by 3:30am Thursday morning.
Rex Thompson said he was driving his truck in traffic slowed down by another accident, when he saw another truck flip over the guard rail of the bridge.
Thompson said, "He (the driver) tried to cut between me and a car to avoid from hitting traffic, and, when he did, he just lost control and went over the edge of the bridge."
Spanish Fort Fire Chief Roger Few said when firefighters arrived, "We had the vehicle over the edge and we had a driver still in the vehicle."
Thompson also said the driver "was on top of his truck and I got the number from him to call his supervisor and get them on site. He seemed to be shaken but in good condition."
Corporal Joe Piggott with the Alabama State Troopers said, "Looks like its not very far (to the ground). (The) water's apparently not very deep, which is a good thing."
Jackson was rescued by a Daphne Search and Rescue Boat, and, not long afterward, met with state troopers at the accident scene.
State troopers said the truck was an environmental vacuum truck and they didn't believe it was carrying any dangerous material.
Troopers said a passenger in another vehicle involved in the accident was treated at Thomas hospital for minor injuries.
