BAYOU LA BATRE, Alabama - Dr. Regina Benjamin is now America's Doctor but she says leaving her patients on the Gulf Coast is bittersweet. Click on the video portion of this story to hear her very first interview after confirmation. She is due back on the Gulf Coast on Friday but we caught up with her on the phone in Washington D.C.

Dr. Benjamin can't formally address any issues (yet) but is excited about having all Americans as her patients!

Congratulations!

No need for sadness. She will be back in about three years.

Many thanks from the community to a wonderful doctor and person. She deserves this position and honor and I know it really pains her to leave what she feels as unfinished business her in Bayou La Batre but it will be ok. You have done you part and now it is time to pass the torch. Congradulations and keep the faith.
