A 73 year old Mobile woman says she was attacked by a pit bull, and she may have to get rabies shots if the dog isn't found.
Betty Campbell says she went to the Bayside Station Post Office Monday evening off Dauphin Island Parkway when she was suddenly attacked by the pit bull.
She was bitten on her left leg.
"When I stepped out of my car, he run at me and I fell and that's when he attacked me. When I hit the ground, and I finally kicked him off of me but I was, I was hurt bad, there was blood everywhere, all over my clothes" says Mrs. Campbell.

Betty Campbell describes the dog as mostly black and white around the shoulder area.
If you think you've seen the dog, call the Mobile City Animal Shelter.

one good thing, would be to have background checks on anyone wanting to purchase one of the more aggressive large breeds. now keep in mind that can be a lab to. several years ago when they were really popular you heard about lab attacks to. i had a background check done on me when i purchased my shepherd, had to sign a contract also.  back yard breeders who are looking for a quick buck. you should have a license to breed any dog. for gosh sakes stop the dog fighting, and promoting products with mean dogs as a logo.

Well said Rolltide33.

Are you kidding me? Give me a break; do you really want me to bring up the attacks you laid on me when I typed things you didn’t like?  On the last one you attacked me first, calling me ignorant for my opinion, and then I started really giving you mine, but I have yet for you answer ANY of the questions I asked you on that story OR this one. I have had meaningful debates on several posts with Claycity and voiceofreason with NO insults from either side, just opinions and facts. You on the other hand attacked me for not conforming to your beliefs on animals, so back off.

It is unfortunate for the breed that they are so popular for the wrong reasons, especially with the irresponsible owners.  However, we must deal with the reality of the situation.  The reality is that something must be done to reduce or eliminate the number of people injured by these breeds.  What vehicle is chosen to accoplish this task may be one that upsets the responsible owners.  That is unfortunate for them, but not as unfortunate as it will be for the next mother whos child is mauled by a dog if we refuse to do anything.

Wait4Me, now see your post is an example, you can not stand it when people really debate. sorry no guns were mentioned. only solutions, bet that does make you mad.

rolltide33, i agree with you on that. there are challenges to owning a dog period. because some people are using pitts for all the wrong reasons serious breeders should raise the price. if you can not afford the price you can not afford the dog. you have to start with the breeder. i have several unwanted dogs also but, pittbull, rottweillers, labs, dobbies, german shepherds etc. must be given obedience and socialized early.

LOL… very ammusing Wait… how dare I?

rolltide33, you must be placed in the “camp” for “reprogramming” now for your insubordination of the system. You have been warned before concerning your constant false claim that you have an opinion. ALL of your “opinions” shall be preapproved before you are allowed to claim rights and ownership of said opinions.  Now don’t you want to rethink your “opinion”?

Rose, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.  Sometimes we must agree to disagree.  That being said, there are several challenges with the idea of holding the owner responsible.  Firs and foremost is the challenge of proving ownership.  The same irresponsible owners also tend to neglect the other needs of their dogs such as meds, shots, etc.  They also tend to not put ID Tags on the dogs, especially if they are illegally breeding or fighting the dogs.  With no ID or vet records it would be impossible for any court to prove ownership.

I would be willing and would try to put a chuhuahua owner in jail if their dog bit me.  As far as the owner being a criminal - that may be stretching it a little.  I once owned a small dog that was as loving as could be, but I noticed he was easily bothered and would snap.  Well the dog growled at my grandkids, and I was thinking they played to hard.  Well the dog bit me after I stepped on his tail.  I wasn’t gonna own a dog that potentially could bite one of my grandchildren.  I had him put down.
