DAPHNE, Alabama - Members of Daphne Search and Rescue are drying off after a weekend in the water. The volunteer group finished their first-ever dive-a-thon at noon today, 10/18/09. The event kept at least one man in the Daphne YMCA pool at any given time for 24-hours. It was meant to be a fundraiser for the group. While they didn't make their fundraising goal organizers say they're happy to raise awareness for their operations. Temperatures did dip into the 40's last night but it wasn't as bad as you'd think.“The water actually felt good, up on the surface it was pretty miserable but we had to do what we had to do to get a full 24 hours,” says Event Chair Gabe Spence. Spence says they hope they're able to break even with the dive-a-thon. Members held a "fill the boot" fundraiser outside the YMCA to help supplement donations.
