People living on private dirt roads have until January 2010 to petition Mobile County for help.

The Mobile County Engineering Department at Government Plaza is getting calls and visitors wanting to know about the new Dirt Road Law. It went info effect on Friday and could help people living on some private dirt roads get basic county maintenance.

Engineers are working on a packet of information that will include a petition and instructions on giving up your right-of-way. There will also be information about the cost of moving utility lines and paying for a drainpipe. Those packets should be available by next week. If you want to get your name on the mailing list, call the office directly to request a copy. The number to call is (251) 574-8595.

Nancy Johnson is the spokesperson with the county. She says it's going to be a long process and there are no guarantees. "The Commission gets the final decision and they have to weigh this as with every other project that comes before the county. It's going to depend on priorities and it's going to depend on revenues. It's gonna be a tough road pardon the pun because it's gonna be very expensive for them and of course it's expensive for us too."

I would like to know if the County attorney is paid a salary.I believe this a position that is billing the County on an hourly basis.Who is to keep him honest?Surely not the people in County Government who can’t get their own stories straight. The truth is skirted to suit their own personal and political aspirations. It is nothing but a pass the buck-blame game in our local government. This is an opinion only but something I myself believe.

The County Commissioners need to and must take control of the personnel. The following is just my opinion and belief. There are only a very very few employees that earn their pay. The rest of them are milking their paycheck. I have been waiting on information from the County Attorney that I should have received months ago. I was told this by a very honest and reliable source. I was told that Commissioner Dean ask the Attorney to call me about the status of the petition that was given to the County in Jan.09. Instead the Attorney had his sec. that is home recovery from surgery to call me to set up an appointment to make an appointment. As I understand it this Attorney has his own office as well as taking care of County business. Again this is only my belief but if an Attorney can not provide adequate representation for his client or clients he needs to remove himself from the job. In this situation the client is OUR County Government. I believe that is part of their oath. Correct??

Watch Mr. Dean and his cronies tear this bill apart and try to undermine anything anyone tries
to do to help these people. These people can’t help these politicians financially or otherwise so they are out of luck.We live in the wrong area of District 3.There’s no money here.
