Gulf Shores police say 20-year-old Samara Santos lost control of her minivan late Tuesday afternoon on a stretch of Canal Road known as Concrete Curve and hit a car head-on.Santos was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver, 17-year-old Toni Devaney, is a soccer player at Gulf Shores High School. She was on her way to the school's first soccer game of the season.
Devaney was taken by life flight to Sacred Heart Hospital with leg injuries. She's listed in serious condition.
News 5's Pat Peterson talked to Devaney's principal who said the injuries could end her soccer career.
