A multi agency investigation is underway to sort out the details of a Regions Bank robbery that turned deadly. The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office says it was just after nine o'clock this morning when a man went into the Region's Bank off Highway 181 in Malbis, showed a gun to a teller and demanded cash.Authorities say the teller handed over an undisclosed amount, then the suspect took off in a white pickup truck.
Loxley Police then spotted that truck on Interstate 10 and tried to pull the suspect over, when a chase began.
That chased ended near the 54 mile marker just past the Wilcox Road Exit when the suspect bailed out of the truck. That's when the Sheriff's Office says the suspect led the four officers on a foot chase and pulled out a gun."Shots were fired the suspect at this time is dead, the officers are fine, we were able to recover multiple weapons from the suspect, it's unclear at this time if he actually fired at the officers or not,"Said Major Anthony Lowry with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office. Authorities tell us the 48 year old man had Louisiana identification on him but they aren't releasing any further details about his identity until they're able to notify his family.
They're also not releasing the names of the four Loxley Police officers involved in the shooting, who have now been placed on paid administrative leave.
