ok here aain….
charges will not b fired?
that mother is responsible for her own childs death!
if the gun was out of reach and secured… how did they get it? this is bogus….. i think parents like this should not even have children!

I never said I think they should be locked up. It is obvious that no legal action is going to be taken because of how the laws are set up. I think I did mention that it is tragic enough for these parents to have lost a young child, however, other incidents that have happened in the past have led to nowhere. Kids at a certain age to to be held reliable, such as the case with the two teens. It is possible that the girl’s parents did have discussions with her about gun safety, but she felt that she had the situation under control. At that age they tend to think that they are always right and what their parent’s say is wrong. It is obvious in this case that not much gun safety was practiced because of the fact that the daughter that was in charge left the 2 younger kids unattended in a house with a weapon alone. It is apparent that nothing legal is going to be done in this case, but at times and cases more things need to be done, because apparently the message is not getting heard clear enough with the recent deaths of kids and guns.

Ofcourse more than ONE CONVERSATION!!!!! DUH?!

Easily avoided huh? just talk? No doubt that education helps ALOT…but its not the cure-all. Kids will do as they want most of the time…educate on drugs, sex, etc…etc….they will still be curious and do as they wish when the time comes. One can only hope they make good decisions most of the time and are lucky enough to live through the bad decisions.

Accidents like this one can easily be avoided. ITS CALLED TALK TO YOU CHILDREN. It is one of the easiest things to do, open your mouth and tell them GUNS KILL, CONSIDER EVERY GUN LOADED, BECAUSE THEY ARE USELESS IF THEY ARE NOT LOADED. Also, perhaps explain that the harm and pain caused by ACCIDENTS like this, Last a LIFE TIME. Besides the 9 year old shooter, there is a 15 year old sister, mother, and father, all greiving for this child. They will never forget the day, she wasn’t paying attention to her brothers (sister), found a gun and pulled the trigger (9 year old brother), he left the children FOR JUST A MINUTE to run to the store (father), and the day she didn’t make sure the gun wasn’t loaded (mother).

I also agree with mob1,

“Trust me if my son was playing at a friends house and the parents left their gun out resulting in my son being shot, Two more deaths would shortly appear”...... I would hate i, BUT I cant emagine any other reaction on my own part!!!

Prosecute the parent? sibling? funny .....In the absence of total absolute gross negligence…No DA in his / her right mind could withstand the political backlash of trying to prosecute a parent after their child was just killed…or worse yet…the sibling that pulled the trigger…I know that some feel they should be locked up…and maybe thats the case but things dont always happen as they should. It would never make it through a Grand Jury.

Where was the sister? How did she not notice a 9 year old with a gun? I guess it is up to the parents on charges since she was the one in charge at the time, but for absolutely nothing to be done just sends the wrong message. These very tragic incidents will continue to occur as long as no action is taken to give gun owners the nudge to put more effort into gun safety. I know that loosing a child is horrific enough, but others seeing it happen will just chalk it up to, that could never happen to me. I am sure that is what this family felt when and if they saw the news about the 2 girls.

More idiots! Tyson is also a fool for not pressing charges.

That is why you put it at an inaccessible place. Also educating your teens about how and when to use the weapon would be smart as well as I stated in my previous post. If she was educated on the weapon she would have well known that even though the first time it did not fire that the second time it would. Common knowledge if you are educated on how to use a firearm. Especially if there was a clip in the gun, assuming that it was an automatic. If not an automatic, but a revolver that looking at the barrel you would know that it had a round in it.

I couldn’t agree more with the posts. Seems like there has been a lot of kids getting parents guns lately. When are the parents going to be held accountable for this? I am all for people having guns for protection. But geez people are very irresponsible when owning them apparently. If you drive drunk, hit someone and kill them you are held responsible. I see no difference here. You know what can happen if your children gets a hold of your guns. I am rather tired of seeing all these parents with their 1000 excuses as to why there kid is now dead because of the PARENTS inability to be more cautious. I personally do not own one for I am to terrified that something like this could happen to my children.  I know my kids, very mischievous children. And any other parent who knows there child likes get into anything they get their hands on, should not even have a gun in their house. JMO
