The City of Dauphin Island is lowering the admittance price on their new west beach.
Admission will now be $5 per vehicle, plus $3 for each passenger over 12 years old. Children 12 and under get in free.
Walk-ins will now be charged $3 each.
Until now, people were being dropped off at the gate and walking in, apparently avoiding the $20 fee.
According to Mayor Jeff Collier, changing the price will make it a little less expensive overall for everyone.
Mayor Collier says the change is not in response to calls that the previous $20 admission was too much.
The Myaor also says they plan to advertise and promote the new beach, and have scheduled events like volleyball to draw people to the Island.

RNuts don’t give them anymore ideas. LOL

Hmmmmm….. For those prices we should get to have those birds fried and served with a side of mashed potatoes & gravy!

Sorry BamaBob, that would be:

$1.50 per bird not-endangered
$5.00 per bird endangered

How much are they going to charge for bird watching?  And, what happens if you get caught watching a bird without forking over the bucks?

I don’t know if you can charge people for walking or swimming the beaches up to the mean tide line, legally that is. It seems to me we’ve been through this before.

That’s not all. They have also talked about charging to park your truck and trailer at the boat ramp. They first wanted to charge to launch but could not because it is a state owned ramp. The parking is already horrible since they increased the parking for the ferry traffic. Even though, I would usually stop at Circle K and/or the Ship N Shore Store for gas and bait. That’s how a town makes money, from tourism.

The Town of Dauphin Island is not a business. They should be providing services paid for by tax dollars so the Business owners on the Island can prosper. Therefore the Town will prosper. Dauphin Island is doing it all backwards.

They might as well put a gate at the foot of the bridge and take up tickets that you buy thru Ticketmaster.

$20 for beach
$10 trailer parking
$2 to walk on sidewalks
$5 to see fireworks on the 4th
$6 to smell the roses

They really don’t want the people they just want our money!  They forget Mobile County that is all of us who live in the county’s money. The beach up by the pier is really nice and so are the facilities!!!  They’l be charging for that next, and then noone will go to the island.  D I use to be a nice place before Fredrick.

I’ve never really thought of Dauphin Island as “the” place to be.
. The charge could just be a way to attract a certain type of crowd.

wow

I have a great idea, jack the price up to 20$ a person! Who cares! Personally, I quit going to the island after they ATTEMPTED to make the bridge a TOLL bridge. The very same bridge YOUR and MY tax-dollars paid for over 25 years ago. The bridge that my Father and 5 Uncles all had a hand in building. I can not wait till the next category 5 to hit and completely wash that chuck of sand away. They think they are so superior to the rest of Mobilians!  Wait till that Big Bridge ends where Dauphin Island USED to be!
__
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
