MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - One of Mobile's largest employers, Teledyne
Continental Motors, says it will cut the hours of its employees as
the maker of piston airplane engines struggles with low demand for
its products.
President Rhett Ross says the company, which employs 400 people
at its Brookley Field Industrial Complex headquarters, will put
employees on four-day weeks, and could close entirely for five
weeks during the rest of the year.
Employees were told earlier this week, and the schedule begins
May 4 for hourly workers.
The local operations already laid off more than 80 workers in
the last year.
