It's a growing problem that's affecting thousands of American homeowners. Brand new homes--rotting away from the inside out because of toxic drywall.
It's estimated 60-thousand homes nationwide could be affected.
Three federal agencies are now investigating.
As early as 2004, a housing boom led to a dramatic shortage of US manufactured drywall.
To keep up with demand, builders turned to China.
Health officials now suspect the Chinese product was contaminated with dangerous chemicals.
We meet a family that built a dream home...and strange things started happening.
The stove stopped working....pennies started to corrode...and a host of other problems.
The chemicals in the drywall caused copper in the home to corrode.
There are no federal standards for the inspection, production or importation of dry wall.
And Now, CBS News has learned that the problem may also involve an American company based North Carolina.
