A plan to help the City of Prichard with its water woes, is in the works.
Mobile Area Water and Sewer Service is reaching out to Prichard with hopes of consolidating.

MAWSS says the goal is to reduce rates for customers in both Prichard and Mobile. The State of Alabama mandated Prichard to improve its aging water system almost two years ago. Customers have been feeling the costs in their monthly water bills.

While MAWSS would like to help, they can't promise Prichard anything until they get financial information.
'We need to know where they stand on their finances and what caused the rates to go up as much as it did. We need to know about the soundness of their system, so we're asking for engineering reports. And we also need to have some information on their employees and what kinds of jobs they do, whether we could utilize them,"Said Barbara Shaw, a spokeswoman with Mobile Area Water and Sewer Service.

MAWSS is still waiting for a response from Prichard Water.

I believe mine in Chickasaw is $19 for sewage, $24 for water from Prichard. If it’s not enough to keep up the infrastructure, we need to figure out how to maintain and repair economically. If it’s being wasted, shame.

A resident’s bill averages anywhere from 45-65 dollars a month for just water/sewage. The highest I had was 71. Outrageous.

How much are the residents’ bills averaging? Is Prichard charging more per gallon of water? Are they charging more for the sewerage? Will MAWSS be able to afford the infrastructure repairs that Prichard has obviously ignored?
