The Coast Guard said search crews were in the air almost four hours Sunday before finding the Ocean Springs boaters they rescued.A crew aboard a Falcon Jet spotted the four people in the Gulf of Mexico, and then radioed helicopters.
Coast Guard officials said the fact that the four had on colorful life jackets and were together two by two made the rescue easier.
Petty Officer Levi Willett said, "When you first saw them, it was just kind of a red blur, and, as we kind of got a little bit more around the turn, then I was able to pick out there were life jackets with them swinging their hands."
Coast Guard Commander Brendan O'Brien said, "It's difficult to get the searches just right and, when it all works perfectly, which it did yesterday, its great. We are thrilled to have four survivors."
Search crews said from the altitude they were flying, the boaters looked as small as the head of a nail.
