A youth baseball coach is behind bars after getting caught with Cocaine.

Mobile Police arrested Marlon Wade this afternoon. Authorities say he had over $24,000 dollars worth of Cocaine and a gun.
The 35 year old has been coaching youth baseball with the Saraland Baseball Association for the past six years. At the same time Police say he's run up a wrap sheet with 22 arrests, ranging from disorderly conduct to theft and assault.

The S.B.A. says they rely on the honor system because they can't afford to do background checks.
"It's expensive to do them, but that's not an excuse. We have 150 coaches in the baseball park. I talked to some independent agencies. It's 40 dollars per coach to do a background check, so you're talking about six thousand dollars. We don't get City funding,"Said Todd Edge, Commissioner for the Saraland Baseball Association.

The Saraland Baseball Association says they are permanently banning Marlon Wade from coaching with them. He's being held at Metro Jail without bond.

Naw Smitty, we should just let them run amuck in the parks with our children even though they are registered sex offenders and drug abusers.  Then they can teach out kids all about “hits” of coke, “running” from the popo, “stealing” anything not bolted down, and “kicking” it with the other thugs in the neighborhood.  if they want to do it, or if the parks assc. or parents can come up with a way to get it paid for then that would be the appropriate thing, but either way it needs to be done for safety of the kids.

Yeah thats a great idea, get the coaches who already volunteer a great amount of time for no pay to come up with more money just to show your or someone else’s kid how to play the games.

Dew gets from the Royal Canadian liberal manifest.

Dew where do you get your stats on teachers?

As an former cocaine addict, I can tell you that this man is likely a dealer and NOT a coke head. The average coke head does NOT keep 24,000$ worth of cocaine at his disposal. Think about it, cocaine causes extreme paranoia, what would make a geeked out coke head most paranoid, sitting on top of a lot of cocaine. If he were an addict, he’d most likely have had it buried in his back yard, next to a tree. Either way, if he wasn’t giving it to the kids, the story is really blown out of proportion. 80% of teachers in the Mobile County School only get drug tested about every two years, and 35% of them are likely addicts of some sort!

Make them do the “hair” test, that can go back 90 days, sometimes a little further.  It is just as accurate and stops a lot of what Kx has mentioned from happening.

Jlynnsmom, cocaine is out of your system in 24 to 48 hours, he probably would have passed one.

Great, just what Saraland and Mobile needs—spotlight on us for someone like this!!! Let’s not forget all the other non drug dealing coaches who do pay for their own background checks like at our Girls Softball Park before they can even step on the field! Who are out there really for the kids!! He (Wade) also is not an employee of Saraland parks and Recreation Department…the media is either misinformed or doesn’t care to report the news properly. Coaches who volunteer their time at public parks are NOT PAID EMPLOYEES of that city. Please, AL.com, FOX 10, WKRG…and who ever else decides to report this story over and over….get your facts straight. Your misinformed writers and news anchors are going to lead people to believe that the City of Saraland would allow a person such as this to be an employee. They (the Little League and Football park) should have implemented this (background checks) long ago and either have the coaches pay for it or increase the registration fee by $1.50!!

A youth ball coach selling cocaine, a judge spanking and having sex with inmates, a Assistant DA soliciting teen age girls online as a predator, is it any wonder why todays kids are out of control? With people like this to look up to and consider them people of authority accused of doing all this. What a sad world this is for kids to grow up in today.

They should make the individual pay for the background check.  If you want to coach, you have to pay the $40.00 fee.  Is that too much to ask?  An honest individual wouldn’t mind paying that.
