Members of Sweet Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Coden will have to find somewhere to worship tonight. The church caught on fire just before 3:00 p.m. Wednesday. It took firefighters about an hour to get it under control.
Church members tell us they were doing insulation work this afternoon. They smelled smoke, came outside and saw the roof on fire.
The church just celebrated its 96th anniversary on Sunday.
