The trial of a former cop accused of raping his young step daughter has been continued until June 15th.

Assistant District Attorney Steve Giardini says lawyers on both sides agreed to delay the case, but he could not say why.

Bob Ingle was arrested in December 2006 on rape, sodomy and sexual abuse charges. The case has been delayed multiple times since his alleged victim, 11 year old Rebecca McEvoy died in a car crash in January 2008.

Ingle's attorney has argued his client's constitutional right to confront his accuser will be violated if he is forced to stand trial, but earlier this year, the Alabama Supreme Court sided with prosecutors, allowing the trial to go forward.

Jury selection was scheduled for this morning, but was cancelled.

Come on people get a backbone and stop protecting the very ones who hurt our chilren!! its ridiculous.. i say i wish we had a court system that just cut their P**** off and threw them in the trash and maybe they would stop..wish i could be over the justice system 4 one day..

Jlynnsmom—I am so sorry about your daughter. If she was murdered, is that not a case?

I hope this little girl gets justice.  My daughter was also robbed and murdered but according to our D A’s office, since there was no victim, since she died, there would be no charges.  Have been following this case as maybe I too can get justice if this little angel can…finally- and rest in peace.

My heart goes out to this family. Not only do they have to re-live the horrible things that happened to this angel, they have to live without her. Being sexual abused as a child and going through a court case for 4 years, I know the heart break it has on a person. It happened 14 years ago and it has ruined every part of my life, you will never get over it and this disgusting man gets a normal life. I’ll continue to pray for this family that justice is served for this beautiful little girl..

Where is the voice of outrage for a poor little girl who has had her voice silenced forever?  I have a hard time believing that this trial has been delayed 8 times!  Is there no justice?  Bob Ingle, former police officer, sworn to protect the innocent citizens, is still living life.  The life of Becca McEvoy has been snuffed out but that does not mean that her memory and her testimony shouldn’t have a day in court.  How long will it take?  How much does a family have to bear?  Over and over they have been denied, not only of having Becca in their lives, but watching the accused continue on and defend his outrageous actions.  Let the court decide!  Soon!  Let the jury hear the truth!

Thank you WKRG for being there for those who need you the most - the “victim’s” and their loved ones.

To add the trauma of a trial to the crime is horrible enough. But to be treated in a court of law as if you are a troublemaker, a nuisance and then be spoken about disparagingly when all you want is to keep other children safe and see that justice is done, is a travesty.

Thank you for not forgetting this accused sexual abuser of children has not spent one night in jail. Public safety is at risk.

How and when has our system of justice become so broken that the criminal is treated better than the child who was allegedly raped, tortured, sodomized? No wonder God, in His wisdom thought it best to take her and spare her this torment.

It is my hope the family seeks civil remedies in addition to the accused pedophile Bob Ingle being incarcerated because reparation is more effective relief than is punishment alone and will enhance accountability of the judicial process.
