A seven year-old boy is recovering from severe burns after a gasoline explosion. It happened this afternoon in the 11,000 block of Tanner Williams Road at the Whispering Pine Trailer Park. Authorities say a group of kids was starting a fire in a garbage pit outside this trailer. The fire chief says some of them began taking turns splashing the fire with gasoline. That's when the fuel exploded. Authorities say a seven year-old boy sustained 2nd degree burns to almost 60% of his body. He was flown by helicopter to USA Medical Center in Stable Condition. Two other adults got lesser burns trying to put the fire out. The incident is still under investigation by the Mobile County Sheriff's Department.

I would for one like to know who they are.

ok these people knowingly live in a trailor park w/ a sex offender. where i come from he wouldn’t own the park for long.

I would like to start by letting everyone know how sad and sorry i am that this could happen to a child. My sympothy is with the family and the young bow.

Now let me see how many feathers i can ruffle.
I happen to live in this park also and while most negative comments on here are true some are not so here we go.

DRUGS- oh yes there is and big red and eballinger if you are who i think you are you cant say 1 word

supervision of children-what a crock some one should see what these kids do from climbing in and out of dumpsters to jumping on the back of moving vehicles going in and out from running loose in the woods all around to not seeing a parent for hours at a time while all this happens

you really dont want to get me start this could go on and on but just to let out what really is going on here it is and for those of you who think not come see for your self

sure for the next week or 2 things may improve but id be willing to bet it will not last

I go to God and my Bible.

I am all for prayer. I go to church for my spiritual guidance.

Nothing, I mean they should not have taken prayer out of schools.  We all need prayers no matter who we are.

As Forrest says, “It happens.” Even smart people do dumb things. The family needs our support, not our judgement.

People live where they can afford to live. That doesn’t mean they are negligent.

Justice, what does public support of prayer have to do with a child being burned?

I agree that entirely too much is being cut from our schools curriculm.  I too remember Smokey the Bear coming to the schools, I remember local LEOs and Fire Depts setting up the wrecked car with the Ambulance service and all participating to teach kids about the dangers of drinking and driving.  These are things that should not have been taken out of schools. I can tell you every accident that I have worked with alcohol involved and the outcome is never good.

The news has been full of stories of kids killing kids, people dying or badly injured in drunk driving accidents, and now a CHILD being severely injured by fire.  I do not blame the parents, I blame society as a whole.  Kids do not come into this world knowing the dangers that they face, we have to teach them.  I promise you this little guy never in a million years thought he would get hurt, he DID NOT SEE THE DANGER.

People we have got to step up and volunteer with our kids, get involved in PTO’s and so forth.

We were taught fire safety in elementary school too.  Smokey the Bear was brought in and we had films on such.  Also in high school we had films on drinking and driving and the consequences.  I agree these things should still be in place. They have time to do “fall festival”, etc., so they could make time for things like this.  I also think driver’s education should be mandatory for students before they can get a license.

Even if a kid has been taught from birth about safety procedures on just about anything, when they are with other kids they will dare each other to do certain things.

Also, now days all the school is worried about is making sure the kids are there until a certain time of the day so they can meet their quota of people present to get money. They don’t care if kids learn anything at all.  Before long high school students supply list will include bibs and bottles and perhaps a stroller.

I agree parents should teach things at home to, but you have specialized training that ordinary people may not be aware of.  I agree about PE and other things (prayer) cut from schools.  Yet they wonder why obesity is out of control and the morals are going down the drain.  We appreciate the firemen.  I have always said they risk their lives for people and are so underpaid.
