Mobile, Alabama - At approximately 7:45 am this morning Alabama State Troopers responded to a wreck on Johnson Road at the intersection of McRae Dr. in West Mobile. A 9 year old Hutchins Elementary student was crossing the road with three children to board her School bus when she was struck by a 2002 Honda Accord driven by Christopher Talley of Mobile. The bus was stopped facing west on Johnson Road with all of its mandatory safety equipment activated. The Honda failed to yield to the flashing lights and stop sign of the bus and struck the child. The child was transported to USA Medical Center for treatment and the extent of her injuries is unknown. This investigation is ongoing and a determination of charges if any against Talley has not been made.

I agree. If you see all the caution lights and the stop sign in place on the bus you know what is occurring. Even if you are coming up behind the bus, you should automatically assume that a child is about to cross from in front of it. If you do not know what the flashing lights and stop sign on the bus mean then you really should not be driving at all. There is no way that he could have not noticed the bus or the flashing lights and sign unless he was not paying attention which is no better. He may not have intended on what happened while driving pass the bus without stopping, but he had to have known it was a possibility.

Sorry, don’t buy that line of reasoning.  By saying “this was not an intentional act” and “this could have happened to anyone”...Sorry no.

There is no excuse for not stopping when a school bus is stopped and the warnings in place.  NO excuse.

The article states “The Honda failed to yield to the flashing lights and stop sign of the bus and struck the child.”

The driver made a choice to ignore the stopped bus and now hopefully will have to face serious consequences.

Your argument that “this could have happened to anyone” should be changed to “this could happen to anyone who does not follow the traffic laws.”

First of all my thoughts and prayers go out to the little girl and her family.  Furthermore, my thoughts and prayers go out to the driver and his family.  I’m appalled at the horrible comments posted. So, many people are quick to judge and make comments not knowing facts or correct information. I guess thats easier to do.  Unfortunately, the media is to blame for this. They feed off negativity and create unessecary drama. This was not an intentional act. You people fail to understand this was tragic for everyone involved. This could have happened to anyone!! Those who want to judge and ridicule should look in the mirror.

As a Mobile County School bus driver, I am quite surprised that this type of thing doesn’t occur more often.  I see people ignore my warning and stop signs on a daily basis, and more often than not, when a police officer observes such violations, they simply ignore it.  In this situation, an arrest has not been made and I think someone should be held accountable as to the reason why.  How many children must be injured or perhaps die, before law enforcement starts doing their job?

I was watching this @ 6, my 5 year old nephew said that kid goes to my school. He also told me he seen it happen. I can’t believe this idiot didn’t g2 jail. if he doesn’t g2 jail, I would sue him. if he didn’t have money his wages would be garnished & put into my pocket. what is this world coming to where it is over looked when you hit a innocent child w/ a car. I guess if you can kill a new born baby, hitting a 9 year old w/ a car isn’t a big deal.

As of 5:30, based on the Sheriff’s website of arrests and bookings, Christopher Talley has not been arrested and booked into the county jail.  Guess he just got a ticket, or the police are waiting to see how the girl’s health is.

Poor baby!  What a horrible thing to be hit getting on the school bus.  I hope that she’s ok!

of all the parts of a drivers test not to remember. hope the child is okay. prayers and thoughts are with you. hope the driver is incarcerated.

is the posting working yet??

What’s totally ridiculous here is that, this is a flat, straight stretch of road with a speed limit of 35.  Any idiot should not have a problem stopping for a school bus in this situation.  Clearly an example of someone not paying the least bit of attention!

I live in a neighborhood 1/2 a mile down the street from where this occured and have children who ride the bus.  It has infuriated me for the 3 years that we’ve lived here to watch people disregard the posted speed limit as well as quite a few thinking, that stopping for school buses doesn’t apply to them.

I hope and pray that this little girl is ok.  On the scene, she WAS able to move her arms and legs, so that is a good sign.
