Mobile police arrested a Chickasaw Elementary School teacher for driving under the influence.

Police tell News 5 they spotted a silver car driving erratically this morning on eastbound I-10. When the officer pulled Suzanne Morrison over, they say she downed a drink.

The officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol when Morrison rolled down the window. Police say she failed both the breathalyzer and field sobriety test.

According to her bio on the school's website, Morrison graduated from Alba High School in 1985, earned a bachelor degree from the University of South Alabama in 1989 and her masters in 2000.

She has taught physical education for 20 years, the last 19 at Chickasaw Elementary.

A spokesperson for Mobile County Schools says Morrison has been put on paid administrative leave. Superintendent Dr. Roy Nichols says the school district is "taking a step back" to figure out what really happened. Dr. Nichols says Morrison will be allowed to return to work next Tuesday.

Kudos Surf and Ttwan. And South wouldn’t you be upset if you were traveling on I-10 of the morning a TEACHER was found in this condition on her way to work?  Wouldn’t you have concern in the matter that someone could’ve been killed?  She does have rights. But so does the other drivers that were traveling on I-10 heading to work.  That right is to arrive ALIVE!  As for teaching my children, I choose to send my children to school for interaction with other children, to be taught by people that went to college to teach children of above normal intellegence.  I do not wish to shelter my children from the real world.  Everyone is innocent until proven guilty yes.  But when you FAIL both a field sobriety test and a breath test you are not innocent!

Lets get one thing straight about this particular situation. She’s a teacher. Of YOUNG children. She’s not working at the dollar store, or Micky D’s, so yes it’s MUCH more important how she acts especially when she’s ON DUTY. My personal opinion…...She should be held MORE accountable, not less. She should recieve MORE punishment, JUST because she is a teacher, and WAS on her way to work when the officer intervened. If you hold a position of public office, are a doctor, teacher, or law enforcement officer, or fireman, then I feel you SHOULD be held to a higher standard than others. ESPECIALLY if you’re found in this condition, while on duty, or ON your way to duty. PERIOD. Your JOB is to serve, protect, heal, or teach our YOUNG children, you should ALWAYS be at your best, no matter what your situation is at the time.

I cannot believe the sympathy shown for this teacher.  Yes she’s human and humans make mistakes; however, she was on her way to work DRUNK!!!  What if she ran into your love one or was in charge of your child? News 5 recently ran a story on women who drive under the influence, and by the responses that I am reading, their point was proven.  Drunk driving is only wrong for some.

todo1 Says: Suzanne Morrison has a sister named Shannon Tillman who teaches first grade at Chickasaw Elementary, and she was arrested for DUI in July. And we’re supposed to trust our childrens’ safety with these people?

Unless you want to do it yourself then , yes. You will have to trust others with your children. Don’t know if you’re aware of it but teachers are human too. I doubt these are the only teachers to ever get a DUI. Maybe even your doctor has got one before. Even a former President got a DUI once. Did it make him a bad person?

In defense of Ms. Morrison…..all of you who seemingly want to play the ultimate judge. You must all be perfect and never done a thing wrong, or have you just never been caught? Yes, she broke a law…that does not give you a right to tear her to shreds on this comment page. Like I said you all must be perfect….because if it was your life people were writing about, it may be a different story! Find something better to do with your time…and don’t always believe what you hear. There is always another side to the story.

It was yesterday morning.  She was heading to work.  Late at that.

she was not at work or on her way to work. so why should you give a flip. she’s been at the job 19 years without it being a problem. you sheep go back to eating your grass

SDG- Lovely to assume guilt based on an arrest! Why have a judicial system if you have already assigned a verdict and punishment? Why should business offer employee assistance if someone’s issues automatically mean they are not employable? She is being paid because she has a contract, she has rights to fair representation and she deserves consideration for her record.

Love mercy

Um yes she was drinking.  Read the article
