Partiers around the Styx River got an unexpected surprise today, Sunday, June 21st 2009. The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office and Alabama State Troopers set up a check-point along Wilcox Road. Officers were trying to catch drivers that may be breaking the law. In recent weeks the sheriff's office says they've had a number of accidents in the Styx River area along with reports of reckless driving and fights.

“We have a lot of problems with both on the road and off the road people tubing up and down the river creating a lot of problems and we're trying to curb some of that,” says Major Anthony Lowery with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. State troopers also brought their "BAT" mobile to check blood alcohol levels. About 12 officers took part in the check-point.

Is there not good and bad with EVERY profession out there today? so why sit here and debate over the people that get out up every day to protect us? Is there bad cops I am sure there probably is, but the good has ALWAYS out weighs the bad. I don’t understand people sitting and bashing LE everytime the subject comes up, because if they needed them guess what, those very same people would come to your home and help you. It’s like I was always taught growing up, walk a mile in their shoes first before you condemn, because like it or not they do protect us, they do help us, and they are there for the people. and before anyone asks no I dont have anyone in LE, but I have the UT-MOST respect for them. I say GOOD JOB and keep up the good work.

Carl and rmseek, pretty much the answers I expected. I would find it hard myself to write a ticket to a relative. With every job comes some perks, the problem comes when the perks are abused.

Today I saw a sheriff at the movie theater. Tickets to transformers 2 were selling out fast, and there was a long line. So, instead of finding a parking spot, he just conveniently parked in the fire lane and went to the ticket counter.

No, he wasn’t in uniform. And no he wasn’t working there.

I should have gotten a photo of his car too, because his windows had limo tint and you couldn’t see through them at all. A government owned law enforcement vehicle in CLEAR violations of alabama’s tint law. Will he write himself a ticket? Of course not, because the law doesn’t apply to LEOs!

I think that if police chiefs and sheriffs started disciplining and firing officers when they violate policy and the law, they will get much more public support.

For a minor infraction(just a little over the limit or such)I wouldn’t expect a policeman or woman to give their spouse a ticket if there is no apparent danger to others at the time.I consider that as one of the perks for the job and a show of appreciation for the families who put up with all the side effect of the job.I’m sure most all officers know where to draw the line between the job and family. And the wife would be sure to let me know where that line was.grin

OK,I asked and he said he would. He also said if I mouthed off and acted a fool,he’d taze my little you know what!lol Hmmm, might have to try that one day.JUST KIDDING!!!!

I can’t speak for RM but I asked my husband who is w/ the MCSO & he said “He11 yeah I’d give you a ticket. I’d give my mother a ticket.  You need to obey laws for your safety as well as other’s.” Hmmm…Hopefully he doesn’t get behind me when I’m running late for work. =)

Just for kicks, I texted this question to an LE friend of mine and their response was, “Right now, I’d ticket her AND find a reason to tow her car” Uh oh.. smile

LOL Carl. That sounds about right to me.

I don’t know about RMSEEK,but if I were a policeman and I tried to give my wife a ticket,I’d be three weeks getting out of the hospital and eating a lot of hungry man dinners.grin

Try answering with an honest yes or no, rms. It’s a hypothetical question. It doesn’t matter if you “knowingly” speed or not.

Hypothetically speaking, If you were driving down the road and your husband caught you speeding,  would HE write you a ticket?

It’s a good question and I think a lot of people would like to know.
