This was the scene along highway 43 in Satsuma Sunday afternoon. Police say it started at a home a short distance away with an apparent domestic dispute between a man and a woman.“The male had obvious signs of injury to his face, the female attempted to leave, the officers advised her not to so they could talk to her,” says Satsuma Police Chief David Benefield. He says the crash victim got into her car, hit the median and slammed into this utility pole at almost 60 miles per hour.
“We just heard a big crash and that’s' when we ran outside and saw the truck wrapped around the poll,” says Deborah Floyd who lives near the crash. She says she was at home with her family when the crash happened. Dozens of people gathered along Oak Avenue to take a look at the damage.
“It's a bad thing the vehicle hit the pole, but you know the cops were right here on the scene and the response time of Satsuma was incredible,” says Deborah. Neighbors say they're shocked by what happened and say this isn't the first time they've had problems at this intersection.
“There's always somebody skidding to a stop at the stop sign you always have people going too fast and things like that, as I understand it she fish tailed and did a 180 degree turn,” says Deborah’s husband Daryl. The victim was flown to u-s-a medical center with what are believed to be serious injuries.
