According to Mobile City Councilman William Carroll, Alabama's Probation and Parole office is moving out of the By Haas Building in July!We learned that information after another escapee scared people living in the Midtown neighborhood behind the building.
Che' Marks ran off in handcuffs while visiting with his parole officer on Tuesday morning. Officers were waiting for him at the building to slap a new charge on him... raping a minor. Mobile Police quickly caught up with Marks across the street and he was taken to Mobile Metro Jail.
Councilman Carroll and County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood have been looking for a solution since neighbors asked for their help last year. In November, the people living near the building were terrified when an escapee was shot and killed in a front yard on Montauk Avenue.
Carroll told the people of Midtown that the parole office will move to another building that currently houses the Department of Human Resources.
Interestingly enough, we talked to spokesperson Robert Oakes at the Probation and Parole office. He says their lease with the county is up at the end of May 2010 and this is the first he has heard about a move.
