SPANISH FORT, Alabama - Eric Buzbee says he's embracing life again and trying to adjust to freedom.

"Everything's changed," says Buzbee. "The people have changed, the community's changed."

Accused of capital murder and incarcerated for nearly two years, Buzbee says the nightmare was finally over Friday when a Baldwin County jury found him not guilty in the death of Spanish Fort gas station owner Bobby Wilson.

"It was an instant relief," says Buzbee. "I knew I was a free man, I knew before the verdict was read I was a free man, I just didn't know when that day was coming."

After the verdict, Baldwin County District Attorney Judy Newcomb told reporters Buzbee got away with murder.

"We're not re-opening the investigation," said Newcomb. "We have no evidence to indicate that anyone else was involved but him."

A statement Buzbee has a hard time swallowing.

"I hate that Ms. Newcomb feels she has the right man because she didn't. I'd like to see the real killer brought in for this. Ms. Wilson needs some justice and I personally want to see it...I really do."

By definition, that is exactly what he is:

Innocent - 1 a : free from guilt or sin especially through lack of knowledge of evil : blameless <an innocent child> b : harmless in effect or intention <searching for a hidden motive in even the most innocent conversation — Leonard Wibberley>; also : candid <gave me an innocent gaze> c : free from legal guilt or fault; also : lawful <a > (from the dictionary).

Not guilty = innocent
Innocent = Not Guilty

no matter what definition you use

As it was said, the jury might have found him not guilty but that does not mean he’s innocent.

Myadvice, my point exactly. She didn’t try the case. The whole case was messed up from the beginning. When you base your case upon the word of a self-professed-drug-dealer, then what could she possibly have expected the outcome to be? Buzbee was acquitted. He is innocent. It really is that simple. If she had gotten a guilty verdict, then he would have been guilty. Our system is set up in a way to protect the innocent and punish the guilty.

As far as the second trial, Pylant asked for the mistrial and it was granted. The third trial Beck was asked on several occassions if they wanted a mistrial because of errors by the prosecution, they declined because Buzbee was innocent and they knew it.

The truth shall always set you free…...

Buzbee was only tried 2 times. Belk cause it to be 3 times, because of that important witness, that Beck did not put on the stand. Judy did not try this case, which Buzbee needs to thank God for. Because he would still be in JAIL if she had.

From the first trial, law enforcement honned in on Buzbee as primary suspect when a self professed drug dealer who was cut a deal and not prosecuted said he did it and that he had $10,000 in the console of his truck. My question is, how can you walk up to a vehicle, peer in and see money and determine that it was approximately the amount that was stollen? You can’t look at a stack of money and just say, oh, that’s 10K. How did the person who said that KNOW how much was taken before it was published?

The deals that was made (and I heard recordings of it personally) is astonishing.

The presumption of innocense was missing in this case. He was tried three times and ACQUITTED of all charges. That means he is NOT GUILTY; if the DA felt so stongly about Eric Buzbee’s guilt, why didn’t she try the case herself, or at least make sure that enough evidence was presented to convict. She had 3 tries and still came up empty handed. Get to work Judy Newcomb and find the person who did this. Admit you were wrong, move on and serve the county as you were elected to do. The Wilson’s deserve it; the Buzbee’s deserve it; the citizens of Spanish Fort deserve it; and those who voted for you should be demanding it.

Carebear, you might need to be check into. Have a lot of information.(you sound like a Buzbee) I hope the Wilson stay in front of the camera, tried of the Buzbee Swamp Creatures. You forgot this case was about Bobbie Wilson. Pray for the Wilson’s

From what was reported on the news and the papers, it was a weak case to begin with. The only reason Mr. Buzbee was the first and only suspect was because of the argument over cashing a check.

I think the people of Baldwin County need a new DA that knows what he/she is doing. And if I was a part of Mr. Wilson’s family, I would make her re-open the case. I know when she comes up for re-election, I won’t be voting for her!!

i saw today where bobbys daughter us using his death to run a political campaign for hallie dixon that is sad the woman that was actualy trying this case in the begining and walked out on them and where is the rest of the family at are they not backing her or does the one do all the talking is she forgeting there were 13 other suspects on the sfpd,s board of suspects that never came of either including two of there on family members what kind of coverup is going on here it realy makes you wonder what are they hiding they sure were in a hurry to pressure wash the store and get on with business if it were my father dang the store i would be at the hospital and as far as crackheads where has “j” been for 2 years from testimony of ricky richardson even says he was a drugy and he was a longtime friend of bobbys cove up ????????money shuts mouths it seems

All I know is what I’ve read in the media.  It seems that he was known to be a crackhead with a baby who needed money for his baby and his drug habit.  He lived nearby and was supposedly in the area at the time of the crime.  Also, he was seen trying to cash a check at the victim’s store the day before the incident and was irritated that he refused to cash his check.  As far as I’ve heard, that’s about it.

There seems to have been no physical evidence.  In fact, the DNA found at the scene does NOT match Mr. Buzbee.  It may or may not belong to the killer, but it does not belong to Buzbee.  Sounds like a very, very weak case.

I’m disappointed to hear that the prosecution is considering this case over.  Unless they have stronger evidence that Mr. Buzbee is the killer, I don’t understand how they can be so sure their job is done.  Mr. Wilson’s family deserves justice.

Does anyone have the details that tied him to this case? I am just curious. I have not really followed this case dilligently. I am just curious what made him a suspect. I think I remember reading something about it in the paper, but I can’t remember the details.
