BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham police are investigating
after a body was found in the back seat of a burned car eight days
after it was taken to the city's impound lot.
A detective discovered the body Tuesday afternoon at Birmingham
Towing.
The business serves as the city's vehicle impound lot. The car
was taken there on Dec. 23 after patrol officers found it in
eastern Birmingham.
An auto theft detective was checking the vehicle identification
number when he found the charred remains in the car. Officers
believe the victim had been shot.
Authorities are not releasing any additional information.

What is normal procedure when a burned out car is found on the side of the road?

Who knows…my guess is that he caught a whiff of an unpleasant odor possibly. If not that, he may have looked alot closer inside the vehicle and something caught his eye…being a detective, he obviously has some experience and has seen charred bodies more than once.

Wow.. Wonder what made the detective look in the back seat this time?.. Was it not looked over at the scene?

The article said the car was burned.

“BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham police are investigating
after a body was found in the back seat of a burned car eight days
after it was taken to the city’s impound lot.”

Was the whole car burned, or was it just a burned body in the backseat?

If you have ever seen in person a severly burned car or charred body remains…you could understand why it probably was not detected. Certainly not going to offer excuses as to why but ive seen my share of charred people and even knowing it was a body, it was still sometimes difficult to believe it was a person…and sometimes there is no smell immediately after the initial fire. Bodys that are severly charred and disfigured kind of blend in with a vehicle thats burned and without looking VERY CLOSELY…it could easily be overlooked…especially if you had no reason to believe a person was even in the vehicle to start with.

its easy you just dont look. it probably was beyound the smelly part being burnied and all.

Back Seat!  I didn’t pick up on that!  How do you not notice a body in the back seat?

The report says a burned body was found in the back seat of this.  I could maybe understand if it was in the trunk, but not in the back seat.  You had to have been on dope when you towed this car in to have not seen that.

Shot, burned and put into the trunk of a car?  That sounds out of sequence….
