Prichard Police say Dewayne Jackson stole a lawnmower and a gas can from a house on Shelton Beach Road, right before he pulled into a B.P. Service Station on Highway 45.

Surveillance video from the service station shows Jackson emptying gas out of the lawnmower into a Buick Regal. Less than ten minutes from hearing about the robbery, Prichard Police officer Patrick Kynaston drives up and catches Jackson in the act. When the officer begins to pat Jackson down, he makes a run for the driver seat.

"At some point the subject was able to put the vehicle in drive, the officer then locked the steering wheel to the left to prevent himself from being drug beneath the vehicle,"Said an undercover Prichard Police Administrator. Investigators say Kynaston held on while Jackson pulled out onto Highway 45.
"With the position of the steering wheel the vehicle loops back on to 45 back to the parking lot where the officer rolls free then attempts to pursue the vehicle on foot because of oncoming traffic. The vehicle slows down, the officer then attempts to shoot the tires on the vehicle, fires 3 rounds striking the vehicle 1 time on the driver side,"Said the police administrator. But Jackson takes off and Kynaston collapses to the ground.

Investigators later found the stolen vehicle Jackson was driving in Alabama Village. They tell us he is homeless and goes by "Dollar" as his street name.

Prichard Police say officer Kynaston suffered a minor injury to his ankle and is now at home on paid administrative leave for the next 7 days.
Dewayne Jackson is wanted for burglary, stealing a vehicle and for felony assault on a police officer. We're told he no longer has a beard as shown in the mug shot attached to this story.

I going to add my two cents have both large caliber and small handguns ,But i have a old Franchi 12 that will shot #4 buckshot out to about 70 yards 41 pellets per trigger pull. thats where i faith.
Alabamaoutlaw

looks like old Dollar needs to change his name to mud or 2cents

WALA provides video of what happened,as well as states that Dollar has a history of narcotics arrests and violence arrests. What a nice guy.

So nice to see sanity rules on this thread! Good job Prichard PD-hopefully Dollar will no longer be homeless soon, and find his rightful place in the jail. Of course, he could get shot by some homeowner as he attempts to steal more stuff, and that would just be a tragic shame-lol.

I think the point he was making is it doesn’t matter what you shoot if you can’t hit what you are aiming at in the first place. A good marksman could drop you at 50yds with anything if you hit them where it counts.  Bad guys don’t stand still for that and most cops as well as people can’t hit anything when you put them in a gun fight. So, yes, use a gun with a big (caliber) punch. If you don’t hit them just right I will not matter.  If you’re going to carry a gun learn to hit what you’re shooting. If you can’t hit with a .45 but drive dimes with a .22, shoot the .22.  It might take you 2 or 3 hits to stop him but is better than not hitting him at all. A handgun is a weapon of last resort. If you have a choice run away, if you can’t run away get a shotgun or rifle. Handguns will get you killed in a gunfight.

fox, only thing a 22 is good for is close shooting. what a joke for police. choose as u wish. my point in saying ilike 45 versus 40 cal glock. is that the diff in power, aka knock down as wel las muzzle velocity would have made adiff at that close range. 9mm is good, but in law enforcement,  knock down factor is paramont.one reason most le angecies wen to glocks,  plus the 40 cal,  357 were good but many , were shot,  bullet went thru and didnt stop them. i speak from experience.i still say ak47 should be standard issue

mob1,
I totally agree with your apparent satire with this case in making your point as well.  I just wished that more members of this site could understand that it’s important to recognize just how often LE and Med personnel puts their lives in danger DAILY to help keep us safe. They rarely get acknowledged as a group unless one goes astray and then they get categorized and judged in whole by some who have apparent personal issues that they bolster in hate filled rants against our silent heroes.
I APPLAUD our wonderful responders and have faith in them with great appreciation. I don’t appreciate the dangers the criminals put us all in that leads up to these dangerous situations and pretend they should have more rights simply by being a glorified criminal from LE haters. This case is a perfect example and I hope all has a Great Memorial Day.  BTW, Where’s the swarm of cop haters and criminal defenders on this article? (crickets chirping)....lol…Your point was obviously made as well.

SeniorGuy, caliber isn’t the deciding factor, but rather shot placement.  A .22 is quite adequate/ when placed properly.

I prefer 9mm.  Glock, Kahr and even KelTec.

YMMV.

bad thing here is police officer wasnt carrrying a higher powered gun. a 45 cal glock will talk loud. 40 cal glock lack the power.an the 5 cops in birminham lost their jobs so thugs like this can assualt police officers.my thinking is , give cops ak47, 30clip cannisters.streets will be quiet. do i advocate killing the thugs,, HOW CAN I SAY THIS, YEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

O’ Well of course this was a mean hatefull policeman full of rage and hate. I am sure the policeman was touching him in an unlawful way or said something that caused the Nice, sweet, inocent man to jump into his car and drag this policeman that was full of hate. LOL…. LE should have unloaded on him while he was being dragged, which of coarse he couldn’t.
