It wasn’t wal-mart that destroyed bruno’s. it was the monkeys up in the corporate office who were busy padding their now-defunct 401k’s at the expense of running the company correctly. I’ve worked for bruno’s for 6 years- i don’t think any of the stooges at the top went to business school…

May 17th is the closing date for all the Bruno’s in the area.  according to reliable sources. Small Alabama based Companies cant compete with the multinational corporations—who are subsidized by International Government programs/bailouts.

Actually Bruno’s prices have started to drop. I am glad to see some people do not like Walmart.

Yes I did hear that Publix is looking into bringing their stores to Mobile but no mention of an exact location at this point.  Hopefully they will come with a strategy and place them throughout the county in order to give us an option (with groceries) rather than WalMart expecting to monopolize the whole area.

I REFUSE to step into a WalMart store.
It’s Target/Bruno’s for me & rarely Food World.
Publix would certainly benefit by coming to Mobile right now and they could be the silver lining in Mobile’s grocery store dilemma.
This topic has made me hungry again.

Love Wal-Mart, cheap food and ammo.  Winn-Dixie is great in a pinch, but Wal-Mart rules.

If brunos would lower their prices and put stores in places where regular people live, there would be no problem. They sell to the people who can afford to [waste] that much money on the same product, the rest of us just go to walmart.

How anyone could buy Wal Mart meat is beyond me.  We don’t have a Brunos in our area so i shop Winn-Dixie but i understand that there maybe a Publix coming to West Mobile? Anyone else heard this? Corner of Snow and Airport?

You are right jmorganal,and I do support them,but I can’t do it alone.I will pay more,and will drive out of the way to not step foot in a WalMart.My choices are just getting less and less.And unfortunately the WalMart mentality keeps people coming back to them no matter how they conduct their business.They have one goal,and one only.Shut down the competition,then they can do what they want.People don’t believe it,but they will find it out soon enough.

If more people supported Bruno’s and their exorbitant prices, they would not find themselves in this position.  There are other alternatives to Wal-Mart with reasonable prices.

Due to the democrats being in office,you should see a slow reversal of the demise of unions in the work places.I like to go to Walmart,Bruno’s,Food world or food4less.What one doesn’t have,one of the others will.A union in a work place can be a blessing or a disaster,depending on the people running the union and business.Either one can quickly get out of hand if the people involved doesn’t keep close watch.
