BREWTON, Alabama - Police in Brewton have arrested a
fourth-grade teacher in an undercover drug sting.
Brewton Police Chief Monte McGougin said 46-year-old Kelly ball
is charged with possession of a controlled substance and was
released Friday on $5,000 bail.
McGougin told the Press-Register that investigators began
surveillance of Ball's home after hearing her name from street
sources.
McGougin says Ball paid an undercover agent $100 for 30 Xanax
pills in an alley near her home Thursday.
Brewton City Schools Superintendent Lynn Smith said no decision
has been made about the employment status of Ball, who taught at
Brewton Elementary.
Police said Ball also faces a municipal charge of resisting
arrest.

I had a few teachers and I KNOW I was the reason they would have gone looking for Xanax.

Xanax is powerful stuff.  I am not a big fan of pills and am happy to have kicked that habit a long time ago.  It can be a tough challenge to quit thinking your are dependent on a pill to make everything okay in your every day world.  I just practiced smiling and being happy and genuinely acceptable of the world I had created for myself.  The rest simply seemed to be on auto pilot.  The Xanax addiction is about 20 years behind me to date.  Best of luck to anyone else out there and hope my advice can help you out of your own personal rut in life.

The toughest battle, I think anyway is simply in anyone elses head as well.  I would understand the problems one might have with weening off of Xanax.  My stubborn solution is simply not to get hooked on any drug you can do without.  Not to say it isn’t right for some.  Just not for me anymore.  There is never a part of my ordinary and generally happy day and existence where I have to scratch my head and wonder if I remembered to take a pill for everything in my normal life to continue to remain just that.  This is not the sort of thing I think that can be taught.  I think you simply have to be able to accept your life and circumstances as what you have created for yourself and can live with.  Xanax is powerful stuff.  I’m glad I only took it for a couple of years before I realized I did not NEED it.  Good luck to the rest of you.

I quit xanax after taking it(prescribed) for 18 years. One day I flushed it all down the toilet and haven’t touched it for 11 years. Anyone can quit anything if they REALLY want to.It`s all about will power and personal strengh. The drug addiction is just a cop out.If she knew she had a problem, why in the world would she keep teaching?Jesus Lady..get some help.Apparently she wasn’t smart enough to know that, so much for a College Education.

ADDICTED to Xanax?  I quit that prescribed drug at least 10 or more years ago.  Pot is by far cheaper and much safer.  Locking people up for buying Xanax?  ****.  Must’ve been more to the story than purchasing that one simple non effective drug.  You know what’s even better for anxiety?  Not worrying at all.  Won’t cost you a single penny.  Bunk the rest of your advice for dragging religion into any of these comments here.  Arrested for buying Xanax?  I am very truly amazed at this.

This teacher was chosen Teacher of the Year just a couple of years ago. She was caught buying Xanax…it is a shame but her problems are an addicition. She needs help not comdemnation. To my knowledge her health has been a problem but her teaching…was Not a problem. Some people here in Brewton should be careful not to throw stones when they themselves are likely to be living in glass houses at some point in their on lives!

Why is that the teachers are not drug tested? Maybe the ones who are fed up with what is happening will stand up and request for them all to be tested.

I am a parent of an elementary student in Brewton.  I blame the administration of Brewton City Schools for allowing the problem at the school to continue.  It was well known by the administration that this teacher was not doing her job.  However, the administration never stepped in, and as a result the students suffered in her classroom. This teacher was on more than just xanax!  It was very obvious to the parents and others that she was always strung out on drugs.  It’s a shame when our education system (AEA) continue to support teachers that conduct themselves in this manner.  It’s not fair to our children.  Teachers are supposed to be a role model to our children!  What example is this for the students at Brewton City Schools.  First, we had a coach arrested because he sold drugs illegally.  Now we have a teacher buying them illegally and also taking them while she’s at school.  Until the administration steps in this will not stop.

Yeah, till WKRG and company get her fired from her job and she loses her insurance. Hey, maybe she can enjoy that public option that you like so much…

Let’s not even go there.  wink

Yep, it’s sad. Even more sad when someone is crucified because they do have a problem with anxiety or depression-like apparently, this woman has. To me, this is as much a cry for help, as the teacher who was arrested for drinking on her way to work not too long ago. You don’t know what goes on in people’s personal lives, and it is unfair to condemn them, when but for the grace of God, you could find yourself in a situation that is more than you can handle. I would hope she finds a good doctor now, who will work with her if it is an addiction issue,or an anxiety issue. Some of the newer antidepressants are actually used to treat anxiety, with fewer side effects than the typical anti-anxiety drugs. Hope she gets the help she needs…and can return to a normal, productive life.
