Bond for an LSU fan accused of killing two Alabama fans is set at $2 million, according to Conecuh County Sheriff Edwin Booker.

Michael Williams, 28, is charged with two counts of murder for the shooting deaths of Dennis Smith, 40, and his wife Donna, 39.

Investigators say Williams shot and killed the couple during an argument following Saturday night's football game. Sheriff Booker tells News Five the football feud started on the telephone.

"It started when they received a phone call from Dennis Smith saying Roll Tide," says Booker. "One of the girls up there, I think Williams' girlfriend, said LSU should have won. Alabama just got lucky."

According to investigators, Dennis and Donna Smith then drove to Williams trailer on County Road 19 in Conecuh County where a fight ensued.

"He (Dennis Smith) got out and knocked Williams down," says Booker. "Williams went in the house, and he got a shot gun. Smith pulled a pistol."

Booker says Williams asked the Smiths to leave, but they wouldn't. "That's when the shooting occurred," he says.

Amanda Reese, who is kin to the victims and is also the girlfriend of Williams' dad, says she is stunned by the murders.

"I don't understand how an argument over a ballgame would lead to such deaths," she says.

Sheriff Booker says alcohol played a role in the shooting, and he says deputies are investigating other contributing factors.

Dennis Smith's brother, Shannon Odom, believes there is more to the story, but he says he doesn't know why Dennis and Donna would have driven to William's trailer.

Aislinn79:  Only people with a permit should carry a gun in their car.  Also if they have “rage problems” or a drinker, then they don’t need to even own a gun.  When you carry one with you, you better have to ability to control yourself or be prepared for whatever consequences you may face.  I have lived in Alabama for 40 years and I actually don’t know of anyone who carries a weapon in their vehicle except me and I also have a permit for it. I really don’t care what the fight was about, but the victim showed no judgment in going to the other man’s house. Like I said before, I do not know how many people I would have shot had they not gotten off my land, but it sure would have been the one with the gun. You would not come on my property acting like a nut with a gun because the cops could not get their fast enough to help you.  The protection of my family and myself come first. Even Smith’s brother said he doesn’t know why they would have driven to Williams house.

Everyone in Alabama carry’s a gun????  I don’t, no one I know does, and I know a lot of people.  How in the heck is that profiling?  In fact you are profiling all Alabamians as gun toting loons.  You can’t spell, and obviously you can’t think logically either.  I am a Bama fan, but it appears to me they provoked and escalated this to their demise.  They made the taunting call, they drove to the man’s home, they knocked him down, they refused to leave, and when told to leave with a shotgun pointed at them, they instead went and got a gun.  I would have shot them at that point also.  My life or theirs, and I know which I would choose at that moment.

jaimlyn711, I regretfully inform you that the media does not have to make us Southerners look bad. WE as Southerners do a good job of that in our own actions. They just do their job and show the rest of the world how crazy we act at times. Of course they rarely show the good stuff that we do, because that’s not what gets attention to headlines! So do not be mad at the media for doing their job. I’m no saint, I used to be a gun-wielding RedNek too. Some of us smarten up, others take the RedNek attitude to the grave!

Apparently you have never lived in Alabama. Everyone carries guns in there vehicles. So to say he carried a gun to the shooters house with the intent of shooting someone is profiling. Get your facts straight before you post comments. I hope the truth comes out soon so the two victims quit being slandered in the ways they are. It hurts to see you people posting and saying comments when you never knew either victims or the accused. Again this goes way deeeper then a Footabll game. And its sad two wonderful people are dead over such an event.

The story says the “couple” went to the other man’s house. They were apparently looking for trouble. Mr. Williams went in the house to get a gun and told the couple to leave. They did not leave. Mr. Smith (victim) then pulls out a pistol? If Mr. Smith had no intention of killing someone then why did he bring a gun when he went over to Mr. Williams house? I don’t know that I would have shot one much less two people, but probably someone would have had to die that day when you have two people with guns.  In my opinion you are looking for trouble when you go to someone’s house with a gun and hate in your heart, so be prepared for the consequences.

This comment is to surf, no he was NOT displaced from LA and the katrina hurricane, just because he was a LSU fan, no he has been here all his life and he is not a bad person, he is a good person that was provoked in the wrong manner.

If people would serve GOD like they do this stupid football mess, the world would be a better place to live in and there would be no violence,,,come on people GOD is who we need to serve,,,,

IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FOOTBALL GAME AND I WISH PEOPLE WOULD UNDERSTAND THIS!

But if they would have just left the ongoing dispute alone…..The football game sparked it up again. Then it wouldnt have happened…

Please people understand that this really had nothing to do with the football game!  It was an ongoing dispute that just escalated!  I have a friend that knows these people!  It had nothing to do with the game!  Some things were said I’m sure but this would have happened regardless!  Please I wish the media would get their facts straight before reporting and making the south look bad because now this has made national headlines!  People will believe anything they read!

I am confused here.  Didn’t the original story say it was 2 LSU fans that were killed by an Alabama fan?  Either way, this is a sad world that we live in that anyone should lose their life over a football game.
