Police announced Monday afternoon they arrested 43 year old Troy MacDonald on capital murder charges.
Parish's body was found at the Daphne Sewage Treatment Plant November 14.
Police had already named MacDonald as a person of interest.
When asked why the arrest was made Monday, Captain Daniel Bell with the Daphne Police Department said, "Nothing in particular happened today (Monday). It's an ongoing investigation and a lot of details had to be gathered."
Captain Bell said since the judicial process was just starting, he couldn't answers questions like cause of death, motive or autopsy results.
But when asked if police still suspected a possible drug connection between MacDonald and the victim, Bell said, "We still stand by that."
But he wouldn't elaborate.
Parish was last seen November 12 in the parking lot of a building housing the Bay House Pub and other businesses.
Doug Powell owns Zen Tatu, the tattoo business in the building.
When asked how he felt now that police have made an arrest, Powell said, "Well, I'm glad that they finally made one and I hope that they got the right guy."
Alan Howard of Daphne said, "Its good to know that they got somebody for it. It's a horrible thing to happen to somebody."
Carol Lambert of Daphne said, "We've lived here 33 years, and it was shocking."
For weeks, the Parish family has accused MacDonald of killing Brianna.
On November 17, Brianna's father said he and his family had tracked down MacDonald and had him come to the police department.
And Bruce Parish said he also remembered something he said MacDonald told him and his wife at the time.
Parish said, "He (MacDonald) looked us square in the face and told us what a beautiful daughter we had."
When asked what he thought about that, Parish said, "(I) didn't really know what to think at the time. It was creepy."
The Parish family wouldn't talk on camera Monday, but said they're relieved there's been an arrest.
If MacDonald is found guilty, he could face the death penalty.
