MOBILE, Alabama - Members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mobile are especially blessed today, 9/13/09. Archbishop Thomas Rodi was on hand to bless the new playground equipment at the catholic campus this morning. It's part of a capital fundraising campaign kickoff. The church is trying to raise almost two million dollars to help improve their historic church. Organizers say they're confident they'll be able to meet their goals. They've already raised a third of the money needed.“The playground was made possible through our annual fund drive for the school which happens every year it’s a big deal because now we have grass and campus enclosure,” says Director of Development Marcelle Naman. Today's festivities also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the St. Mary's Sisters of Mercy building. The century old structure has been renovated in recent years.
