Some Mobile neighbors are worried they're being scammed by men posing as alarm system representatives. Residents say two suspicious men have been knocking on doors claiming to be with ADT or Brinks, then they try to gain access to the home. We called ADT. Company spokesperson, Bob Tucker, says it sounds like a common scam, and that's not how they do business, "most of our customer appointments are pre-scheduled, and not cold calling. So, we're not just showing up on people's doorsteps like it sounds like these people are," said Tucker. One couple we spoke with says something just didn't feel right, they weren't about to let them in their home, "what gave me the feeling was the other guy was running down the street and said 'come on it's time to go,' while the guy was talking to my husband and then I said 'Larry, Larry,' I was telling my husband, Larry, just to, that something was wrong and we weren't interested," said Kay Wilson of Mobile. ADT also tells News 5 their representatives have ID, wear ADT uniforms, and drive ADT vehicles.

I used to go door knocking for ADT. Hated it. Paid the bills for a while, though.

These companies DO have representatives do cold calls….I have my security system from ADT and it was purchased thru one of these sales calls.  I’m sure there are some scammers out there, but not all of the “door knockers” are bad.  Just make sure they have proper ID.

I don’t think people are stupid enough to let them in. I wouldn’t.

As a former ADT residential sales rep I can assure you that ADT employees will have proper id’s, however when someone tells you that the sales rep isn’t required to cold call that’s just not true. It’s called “door knocking” True they have some preset appointments, but your also expected to pick out a neighborhood and just start “knocking”. Wasn’t effective then and it’s not effective now.
